![]() ![]() The staff is friendly and explains exactly how to go about painting your artwork. Once everyone has made a selection you pick out 5 colors from a huge variety of colors. First you have to choose a piece of pottery that you want to paint. This is a great experience that the whole family can enjoy together. We were put on a wait list at first but then were seated right away. This is a very popular spot and was quite busy. I visited color me mine in the capitol City mall for the first time with my wife and 3 children. I will completely avoid this place in the future and go to a more respectable place. The only consolation is that they refunded my money. Before I left the franchisee looked at me and said she knew I called the corporate office and that is well and good but they had no power over her. She was insulant and lacked taking responsibility. In fact it was aggravating to be treated this way. Bothe excuses felt to be rubbish and a way to deflect responsibility. She then said it was my fault that the piece must not have been painted properly. At first she made excuses saying the employees are only 17 and new to the job market and I should not expect much from them. The manager came and introduced herself to me before I left with the item. On the underside they broke off the glaze and paint and left the original material exposed making the item not food safe. Most of the bubbles and rough spots were not even touched. The ground down some of the bubbles to where you could see the white material and the spot was void of paint. When I went to pick up the piece, it was worse than before. I was surprised to be getting a call like that after two days. Two days later I was called and told if the piece was left there for 30 days it would be disposed of. I was called by the manager several days later and told the piece was ready to be picked up. I was told the franchise owner of the location would contact me. I called the corporate office to let them know of my experience. At this time I was told when pieces are put on the center shelf they get some of the black dust on them because the kiln is not cleaned out. We were told to leave it there and they would fix it and we could pick it up in about 10 days. The other piece had over 2 dozen bubbles and spots all over it. There were black specs on and in one of the items. When we went to pick up the items we were severely disappointed. We were told we would be able to pick up our items in around 10 days. Once we finished painting we were told to leave the pieces on the table and that they would be glazed and fired in the kiln. The colors on one of our items had already gotten mixed on the piece as it was not possible to keep it from hitting the side of the palette during the painting. It was not until we were half way through painting our items that they agreed to move us to a more suitably sized table. As the table was too small for the items we chose, we asked a few times to move to a bigger table. We were not given instructions on how to paint or how many coats to put on our items until we were half way through painting. The palettes were small and did not hold much paint. One of the employees stopped by and gave us each a palette to select our paints, which we did. We picked out our items, which were some of the largest items they had and brought them back to our table. We were placed at the smallest table they had, approximately 2’ by 3’. We arrived early and waited for them to open. Regular Thursday night Ladies Nights, 50% off studio fee check the Web site or call for details. We decided to go to Color Me Mine in Plano, TX as an anniversary present to each other. Individuals and small groups pay a low per-day fee, plus the cost of the ceramic. For larger events like these, the back room or the entire space can be reserved. Owned by a couple with experience at the United Nations, this branch has corporate programs like Go Green, through which companies can arrange for employees to make their own mugs, making paper cups unnecessary. In the back are paints and a computer database of images that can be stenciled onto the objects. In the bright, airy, high-ceilinged main room, there are small square tables covered with butcher paper and shelves crowded with white ceramics awaiting color: elephant banks, pirate shoe boxes, rearing unicorn statues, snowman-shaped cookie jars, even voluptuous vases dressed in evening gowns. The store then fires the ceramics for pickup a week later. The only New York City outpost of an international chain, Tribeca’s Color Me Mine is a do-it-yourself ceramics shop offering more than 400 kinds of ceramics that kids and adults can paint as they wish. ![]()
